Talking with Yuki Matsuda
"A Japanese Designer’s Quest to Define American Style"

"I don’t think a machine can make the shoes we can make,” says designer Yuki Matsuda, the founder of Meg Company, whose brands include Yuketen, Monitaly, Chamula and Epperson Mountaineering. Based in Hermosa Beach, California, Matsuda approaches and reinterprets different aspects of American style with each of his brands. His pieces appear both historic and modern at the same time, appealing to those who both love a vintage aesthetic and long for precise tailoring. And in all of his products, Matsuda strives to achieve harmony between the skilled craftsmen, the best materials and his refined designs..."

THE NEW ORDER Vol. 11
feat. John Mayer & Hiroshi Fujiwara

"THE NEW ORDER Vol. 11 is defined by the diversity of the two people who feature on the cover. The first, John Mayer, a talented musician who has a keen eye for fashion then there is Hiroshi Fujiwara, the man who has played the most important role in Japanese fashion.

For John Mayer’s story I wanted to work on something that was really important to him and something that correlated with the magazine so I organised to sit him down with Hiroki Nakamura of visvim. As an avid fan of the label it was quite fascinating to have these hugely talented people discuss the finer elements of a label that really defines how street fashion has come in the last decade.

The next cover story is more of a topical piece, Hiroshi Fujiwara, the man who is at the centre of the movement in Japan. Besides an in depth interview, we shot him in familiar settings in Harajuku as well as putting together a small collection of goods from his archive.

Other editorials in this issue include pieces on Sasquatchfabrix., OAMC, Shin Murayama, Burton Thirteen, Maiden Noir, Yuketen & Monitaly, Old Joe & Co, ts(s) and black crows. In addition we have chosen labels like sacai, Marcelo Burlon, PIGALLE BASKETBALL and C.E amongst others to shoot as well as photographers Magnus Unnar and Hori Kiyohide contributing personal works."

issue 11 will be available from August 30, for a list of stockists click here.

Yuketen Maine Guide Boot "Native"

one of my favorite silhouettes from Yuketen is the Maine Guide Boot. done in loden green chromexcel leather, this particular version features embossed, native american motifs. a concho with beading completes the look. the only thing i would change is the sole, this pair would be so much nicer with a white Vibram sole. avaible from Up There Store.

Yuketen Stream Moc

another solid drop from this years fall/ winter collection. made out of only 2 pieces of
leather, handstitched together and sitting atop a crepe sole, these truly shows the craftmanship that Yuketen has to offer. unfortunately the Stream Moc is limited to 12
pairs, as it is made exclusively for Australian shop Up There Store.

Yuketen by Yuki Matsuda

"This is the story of a shoe like no other.

Since 1985, founder Yuki Matsuda has championed and preserved the lost art of genuine hand-made shoemaking through valiant designs that pay homage to the past while still
heralding an intrepid future, Yuketen is committed to bestowing each hand-made shoe
with an independent spirit of living wearable art."
